چکیده

This paper suggests a method to create dark soliton-like waves in a trapped atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). With the phase imprinting method, a soliton-like disturbance is produced along the x-axis. The method is used in two cases (with and without rotation of a trapping potential). The disturbance in a two-dimensional (2D) system is unstable. The soliton-like perturbation is found to decay into more stable vortex pairs together with a burst of sound wave. The simulations are performed by solving the 2D Gross-Pitaevskii equation (2D GPE). The successive dynamics of the wave function are studied by monitoring the evolution of density and phase profile.

Watching dark solitons decay into vortex rings in a Bose-Einstein condensate.

We have created spatial dark solitons in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates in which the soliton exists in one of the condensate components and the soliton nodal plane is filled with the second component. The filled solitons are stable for hundreds of milliseconds. The filling can be selectively removed, making the soliton more susceptible to dynamical instabilities. For a condensate in a ...

Motion in a Bose Condensate: IX. Crow instability of antiparallel vortex pairs

The Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation admits a two-dimensional solitary wave solution representing two mutually self-propelled, anti-parallel straight line vortices. The complete sequence of such solitary wave solutions has been computed by Jones and Roberts (J. Phys. A, 15, 2599, 1982). These solutions are unstable with respect to three-dimensional perturbations (the Crow instability). The most u...

Self-trapping of light in a two-dimensional photonic lattice

We study wave propagation in a two-dimensional photonic lattice with focusing Kerr nonlinearity, and report on the existence of various nonlinear localized structures in the form of fundamental, dipole, and vortex solitons. First, the linear bandgap structure induced by the two-dimensional photonic crystal is determined, and solitons are found to exist in the photonic bandgap. Next, structures ...

Cascade of Solitonic Excitations in a Superfluid Fermi gas: From Planar Solitons to Vortex Rings and Lines.

We follow the time evolution of a superfluid Fermi gas of resonantly interacting ^{6}Li atoms after a phase imprint. Via tomographic imaging, we observe the formation of a planar dark soliton, its subsequent snaking, and its decay into a vortex ring, which, in turn, breaks to finally leave behind a single solitonic vortex. In intermediate stages, we find evidence for an exotic structure resembl...

Instability of Vortex Solitons for 2d Focusing Nls

We study instability of a vortex soliton eφω,m(r) to iut +∆u+ |u| u = 0, for x ∈ R, t > 0, where n = 2, m ∈ N and (r, θ) are polar coordinates in R. Grillakis [11] proved that every radially standing wave solutions are unstable if p > 1+4/n. However, we do not have any examples of unstable standing wave solutions in the subcritical case (p < 1 + n/4). Suppose φω,m is nonnegative. We investigate...
